Description: Cannabis or 'French Intrigue' as it was called on the North American video release, is a low budget film that comes highly recommended, not least for the sight of Jane Birkin who looks absolutely gorgeous throughout the film, whether clothed or unclothed. The excellent cast also includes Serge Gainsbourg playing a chainsmoking unshaven hoodlum, Curd Jürgens and Paul Nicholas. Visually stunning, the cinematography and editing are outstanding, and the soundtrack, written by Serge Gainsbourg is fantastic. Most memorable scene, arguably, features Serge Gainsbourg in a huge Chicken coupe shooting it out with other baddies.

A seemingly happy Swedish housewife and mother begins an adulterous affair with a foreign archaeologist who is working near her home. But he is an emotionally scarred man, a Jewish survivor from a concentration camp who found refuge in the U.S.,and, consequently, their relationship will be painfully difficult.
It is hard to think of another ninkyô yakuza film that leaves the main protagonist - a chivalrous female at that - in so much pain and sorrow, such an emotional abyss of desolation at the climax. Yamashita and writer have fashioned a bleak, haunting, exciting and beautiful film.
