Franco Nero and Telly Savalas are the two conscienceless galoots who are the movie's anti-heroes; Savalas re-ups his giggling hillbilly cretin from THE DIRTY DOZEN, here caricatured to beyond a fare-thee-well. Savalas is the cherry on the cake of what may be the most remarkable set piece in all seventies Italian exploitation: calming a tourist family, packing them in their mobile home, then untethering the trailer and singing a gospel hymn as the terrified Germans plunge into the drink. If I'm not misremembering, there may be a little jig involved here as well. The last of veteran moviemaker Marcel Carne's theatrical films, La Merveilleuse Visite was a surprisingly restrained film by one of the most colorful filmmakers in France. Jean (Gilles Kiher) stars as an angel who has fallen from heaven and landed in a picturesque French village. Nursed back to health by the local priest and his helper, he returns the favor in a surprising fashion. La Merveilleuse Visite is based on a story by H.G. In prison, two young men, Bernardino and Mammone, condemned for murder wait their own death penalty to be executed, and pass their last hours telling each other lust and castration stories (4 flash-blacks). The first story involves a duc and a clergyman castrating themselves, while the lusty duchess and a lusty countrygirl are left alone. The second story is about a Calabrese shepherd who leads his unfaithful wife to eat her lover's testicles, supposing they were from cattle. The third story deals with the castration of a priest by the young man after whom he was lusting.
