He meets Yvonne Durante, a night-club entertainer and part-time smuggler, who aids him in his quest to prove the innocence of his brother, despite the risks she faces from her diamond-smuggling confederates. When a TV gossip columnist wrongly announces that the marriage between now successful playwright William Blakeley and his wife Carolyn is breaking up, New York friends variously reminisce about how the two met and married.
