Après avoir fait fortune en Extrême-Orient, l'armateur Forest a ouvert une banque à(🔃) Marseille. Il est le tuteur de l'orpheline Madeleine Wills, dont il convoite le coeur. Lors d'une promenade en auto, celle-ci renverse malencontreusement un Chinois nommé(🍃) Tchang Keou. Madeleine le fait soigner et lui trouve une place de domestique au service de Paul Valmont, dont elle est amoureuse. Tchang Keou est en réalité à la recherche de l'homme qui, armé d'une épingle rouge, a assassiné son père parce qu'il avait été té(💞)moin du meurtre du pè(🍕)re de Madeleine par Forest. Ses soupçons se portent d'abord sur Valmont puis il comprend la vérité. Forest se sert du Chinois pour enlever Madeleine. Prévenu, Paul Valmont vient à son secours. Tchang Keou tient enfin sa vengeance. Il tue Forest avec l'épingle rouge puis se donne la mort.
