Delluc believed that films should be set in the natural without elaborate posturing, and characters should be portrayed in an intimate way where the past and present, illusion and reality can be correlated, all considered to be avant-garde at its time. He died only a few weeks after the shooting of The Flood at the age of 33.

Eva lives in the sinister Tower with her father, a mad inventor, and her grandfather. The aviator Wilfred Durian and his lovely wife live nearby in the town. But Durian's famous flight across the Australian desert was not all it seems... and when his 'dead' partner Arved Holl is rescued by Eva and comes to claim his former fiancé(🦋)e's hand, the whole house of cards is about to come tumbling down. Meanwhile, Eva's own family history is not quite as she had always believed...
The story is about two couples, one whose the marriage - and the baby - are hidden to the husband's father. The father is angry that his son is still "a bachelor" and decides to organizes his marriage. The other couple, still unmarried, is reluctant to marry, being afraid of an old legend that circulates in the city, of a ghost who appears periodically at some marriages, kisses the bride and she dies the following days.
