The theme deplores the conditions of the slum quarters of Rio (and ghettos everywhere) and finds a young girl from the provinces who comes to Rio de Janiero in search of her fiance and finds he is a feared and hunted criminal. The scenes between the idealistic-but-trapped young lovers is depicted in soft images of tenderness and sensitivity that leads to a climax of shocking violence in the Rio slums.
Dante (De Rienzo), sick of his dreary existence, takes off abroad with the hope of never returning - first 'borrowing' money from the Mob. Nina, an under appreciated airhostess, inadvertently stranded in Dante's city, is staying in Dante's vacant apartment. However, when he unexpectedly returns home one night, and exhaustedly slips into bed, Nina is in it! Of course, their surprising romance must contend with the (small) problem of the local gang wanting their money back...
