During the Baekje period, the Silla Kingdom, another country in Korean peninsular, was watching for an opportunity to unify the two regions. In the royal court of Baekje, with the destiny of its country already in decline, the royal family and its subjects passed their time singing and dancing. When the Silla army invades Baekje, loyal subjects like general Gye-Baek fight with all their might to protect the country. King Uija of Baekje tries to find a way to save the castle, but ultimately fails. Over three thousand court ladies who would rather die than be put to shame run to Nakhwa Rock and throw themselves into the waters of the Baengma River below.
On New Year's Eve, an insecure, struggling actress (Anna Magnani) has nothing to do. When a colleague invites her to a New Year's party, she jumps at the opportunity. Accidentally she runs into an old acting acquaintance (Toto), who is helping a professional pickpocket (Ben Gazzara) steal from people during the hustle-bustle of New Year's Eve festivities. During the course of the evening, they have numerous crazy, humorous adventures all over Rome at different parties, restaurants, and even the Trevi fountain. Kusum Rai lives a wealthy lifestyle in scenic Kashmir with her widowed dad, Basant. Her dad had helped his friend's widow, her son, Sushil Verma, and daughter, Munni, overcome many financial challenges, and had also paid for his medical education so that he can grow up to not only support his family, but also marry Kusum. Kusum and Sushil do get married and re-locate back to Sushil's house which is attached to Malhotra Hospital where he works. Shortly thereafter disagreements begin when Kusum is not allowed to have her way, and also when she feels that Sushil is not being attentive towards her. Things escalate to such an extent that Kusum returns to live with her dad. Several months later, she is informed that Sushil is seriously ill, she returns - only to find that Sushil is in love with a nurse named Karuna.
