Volker Schlö(🌹)ndorff transposes Bertolt Brecht’s late-expressionist work to latter-day 1969. Poet and anarchist Baal lives in an attic and reads his poems to cab drivers. At first feted and later rejected by bourgeois society, Baal roams through forests and along motorways, greedy for schnapps, cigarettes, women and men: ‘You have to let out the beast, let him out into the sunlight.’(🐓) After impregnating a young actress he soon comes to regard her as a millstone round his neck. He stabs a friend to death and dies alone. ‘You are useless, mangy and wild, you beast, you crawl through the lowest boughs of the tree.’
Min-su and In-suk's seemingly happy home is shattered when Min-su's aldultery comes to light. Yeong-hie, Min-su's jealous mistress, arranges for In-suk to be kidnapped and informs Min-su that he must marry her or his wife will suffer the consequences
Madhu was engaged to somebody. She ran away to be with her boyfriend, only to discover that he was only after her money and was really fooling around with someone else. She went home to discover her uncle, her only family, had committed suicide. She ran away. While trying to run, she came across her widowed childhood friend, who is on her way to meet her in-laws for the first time. They decided to take the train together to Naini Tal. Along the way, the train derails and Madhu's friend is killed. Before dying, she makes Madhu promise to "take her place" at her in-laws. Thus Madhu becomes a new person. But, her old ex-boyfriend knows and she is actually connected to the people of Naini Tal in more ways than she knows...

Set in Paris during World War I. Lili Smith/Schmidt is a German spy being requested to go under cover to help Germany during the war, to try and find out their plans. Her "uncle" wishes her to fulfill the operation, whereas one of his colleagues believed she is not capable of performing such an operation as she is British. She soon finds herself following Major William Larrabee's every move and spending all her time either with him or thinking of him.
