Saverio Mazzacolli - young Roman lawyer who wants to build a tourist complex in Salerno. He has enough Ideas and relationships, but lack of funds. But a lot of money has Countess Raymonda, which looks forward Saverio. However, it is tricky and requires in exchange for financing the project with a high rate of interest income. To overcome this lawyer decides to marry a beautiful but mentally retarded daughter of Countess Clotilde. Donna Raymond agrees, but not retreating from her claims. L' ultima chance is one of those Italian films overdubbed in English in order to appeal to english-speaking audiences. It's about the love of a woman for a criminal who stays at the motel she owns. Well, it's a little more complicated than that, but it's an interesting plot. The movie, however,is poorly made, complete with lousy acting (Andress being an exception). Suspense is maintained throughout the movie, which is certainly a plus.
This movie is really good, It's got the (bud spencer/piedone) vibe, but rather than being totally slapstick like his other movies it has the 1970's police/italian/drama movie vibe, with little twist and turns that they police movies HAD, and in contrast with his other movies it has a dramatic background, Obviously there are more hardcore police movies, but this is a good begin for anyone, if anyone wants to watch them all, it's half lightheart half hardcore, needless to say if you no nothing about police B-movies and you watch "il Boss" right away, you might ned a shrink to get you out of the mode. But this is really passable
...I'll take this almost intolerably nasty 1972 Italian drive-in movie, which features Mark Lester (of OLIVER! fame) as a kidnap victim who gets into scrapes that, in their uncut version, would probably get this movie in Federal chickenhawk-busting trouble today. Franco Nero and Telly Savalas are the two conscienceless galoots who are the movie's anti-heroes; Savalas re-ups his giggling hillbilly cretin from THE DIRTY DOZEN, here caricatured to beyond a fare-thee-well. Savalas is the cherry on the cake of what may be the most remarkable set piece in all seventies Italian exploitation: calming a tourist family, packing them in their mobile home, then untethering the trailer and singing a gospel hymn as the terrified Germans plunge into the drink. If I'm not misremembering, there may be a little jig involved here as well.
1974's The Nickel Ride is the work of director Robert Mulligan (To Kill a Mockingbird, The Stalking Moon) and writer Eric Roth (The Onion Field, The Insider). It's also the best film by far for Jason Miller of The Exorcist. The story of an obsolete mobster is less a neo-noir than a movie that behaves as if the noir period never ended.
