After an unidentified badly burnt body is found near an RAF base, Gently works alongside Special Branch officers who suspect the victim was involved with the IRA. However, the discovery that a large cache of guns has gone missing turns the case into a hostage situation.
Sisters Myra and Ellie have finally had enough of their miserable, dead-end lives. When their step-father Charley (The Bonnie from the title being long dead) tried to rape Myra, Ellie ventilates him with a shotgun, and the pair run off to their wealthy uncle's mansion in El Paso. From that point on, the two undergo a transformation in their personalities, and start to enjoy living their lives on the wild side.
Can one ensure immortal love? Hippolyte, an eccentric notary, sees his marriage to Camille as his one great success. He also believes that love doesn't last, and this flummoxes him as they approach their 15th anniversary. To test her love for him, he promotes her seduction by an anonymous stranger, behaves badly to guests, makes love clumsily, sleeps in the guest room. All this breaks her spirit, and she asks him to move. It's devastating to Hippolyte, Camille, and their two sweet children, but he persists; he can't seem to shake this humour. Then, they reconcile and depart on a second honeymoon. Is this a renewal of domestic bliss or a an interlude in Hippolyte's mad design?
