This is a story of an old black family of vampires living in Los Angeles under the radar. The vampires are Xavier Gains, sister Daniella Gains and wild card cousin, Barry Styles. The story revolves around these characters and the humans they are attracted to. As for Xavier, his love for a woman, Marisa Childs, led him to kidnap her from her husband, brainwash her and eventually initiate her into the fold. Yet through all this Marisa would not let him kill her husband, Douglas Childs as he is doing his best to bring his wife back. Not only is Douglas' wife trying to keep him alive, so is Daniella who is infatuated with Douglas.

A week before her birthday her Mum serves her an ultimatum - she needs to move out of the shed, get a haircut that doesn't put her gender in question and stop dressing like a homeless teenager. Naturally, Anna tells her Mum to "back the f-off". However, when her school friend comes to visit, Anna's self-imposed isolation becomes impossible to maintain. Soon she is entangled with a troubled eight year old boy obsessed with Westerns, and the local estate agent whose awkward interpersonal skills continually undermine his attempts to seduce her.
