This film's German title would translate as "Journey in the Night", but that "night" is metaphoric: it refers to blindness, rather than anything nocturnal. The film's most notable merits are its photography (by Max Lutze), the direction by F.W. Murnau (a bit lighter than usual from this director) and a remarkable performance by Conrad Veidt ... an actor who never fails to impress me, yet who surpasses his own high standards in this drama.
Sigrid, A French dancer, diagnosed with a weak heart, is ordered by her doctor never to dance again. But when her dancing skills are needed by her lover's father to help quell a native uprising on the East Indian frontier, she determines to dance whatever the cost.

The poet Dante is lost in a dark and gloomy wood. At the summit of a mountain he sees the light of salvation. He endeavors to ascend to it, but his way is barred by three wild beasts, symbolizing Avarice, Pride and Lust. Beatrice sees his predicament and descends from Paradise into Limbo, where she asks the poet Virgil to rescue and guide Dante. Virgil knows another way to go, but this leads straight through the entire Inferno, before it continues towards Paradise. Virgil leads Dante to the portals of Inferno. Charon ferries them over the river Acheron, and then they start their journey downwards through the different circles of Inferno. Dante meets all kind of sinners and sees the never-ending punishments they have to undergo. The various punishments are adjusted to the different transgressions. Among the sinners Dante recognizes many persons he has met in Florence, when they were still alive. They tell him their sad stories and why they have ended here. At last Dante and Virgil ...

PATRIA (pronounced PAY-tree-uh), a 15-episode "preparedness serial" filmed by the Whartons in Ithaca, New York, in 1916, cast the Japanese, with whom we were not at war, as the villains in a spy story. Warner "Charlie Chan" Oland plays the chief villain, Baron Huroki, who is determined to gain munitions factory and "defense fund" heiress Patria Channing's vast wealth for Japan.
Maude Brooks is in love with an aviator, George Pinckney. Maude tells her father that she intends to marry George, as he is a splendid fellow, but her father will not listen to her. So she decides to elope. Maude meets George at the machine and together they fly up into the air. Mr. Brooks, who has been apprised of his daughter's intentions, starts in pursuit. He also flies in an aeroplane until something goes wrong. Then he has to descend and by devious routes manages to reach the express train, which runs to the neighboring town, where his daughter has fled to be married. An exciting race takes place between the flying machine and the locomotive. When the train reaches the station, Mr. Brooks hails an automobile and arrives at the church just as his daughter has changed her name to Mrs. George Pinckney. He is furious, but Maude's persuasiveness leads him to see things in a different light.
