At nine o'clock in the morning, José Luis waits at the Atocha station for his girlfriend, Mari Carmen. The couple has deceived their families, who have told that they will eat in the Faculty. The journey is eternal and the stay in the city, rather than surprise them, as they expected, immerses them, even more, in the monotony in which they live. Without friends, without relatives and without university partners, the couple will spend twelve hours in Toledo, half a day of tenderness in the rain and the December sun that will help them to know themselves better. Syria is dominated by the Romans. During a summit of Tibullo, Jezel and Tisba, two very skilled thieves who "work" in the crowd, are pursued by some guards but are able to escape. Jezel takes refuge in Ammon's potter's house and invades his daughter, Miriam. As old Mannaen kidnaps the girl, Jezel and Tisba save her and go together in a cave, shelter of Syrian rebels. Near is the legion of the Vitellio console and the two thieves steal the imperial insignia. Mannaen, to attract the romance's sympathy, reveals their refuge and, after a furious battle, also Jezel is imprisoned. Condemned to death because he does not want to reveal where the insignia is hidden, he is about to be baptized when Tibullo recognizes his son in him, kidnapped him by the pirates. A young man is a collector of feminine conquests. One morning, leaving one of his mistresses he is addressed by one of his past flirts. As revenge, she denounces him later to the police as the murderer of her fiance who was found dead the same morning.
