Il a été tourné en noir en blanc, à l'exception de la scène finale. Il est l'un des épisodes du film Le Plus Vieux Métier du monde qui traite de la prostitution à travers les âges et qui est composé de six épisodes en tout. Anticipation, ou l'Amour en l'an 2000 est le dernier épisode. The film is set in British India in the year 1915. The story is about a young doctor, Govardhan Menon (Mohanlal), who is wrongly accused of bombing a train carrying 55 people including British officials. He is put in a cellular jail at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Kaalapani shows the sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners in the cellular jail, including leading participants of the freedom movement.
