Tom (Lanning Beckman), an amoral grifter comes to Montreal during the summer of Expo. He picks up Vicky (Astri Torvik), a bored librarian and begins to teach her the ways to steal and swindle. Soon after the relationship between the two develops, Tom finds that his new student threatens his own dominence. Abel, an immature and eccentric man finds himself at a turning point. He sleepwalks through his life, which revolves around his dying mother and journalist girlfriend Madeleine, who is even more immature than he is. Abel is finally made to face up to reality when he has to say goodbye to his mother and then, by chance, he meets an old girlfriend who is about to move to Paris and be married. Tony Rome is an ex-cop turned private eye in Miami Beach. For $200 he returns to her father's house a young woman who's passed out in a seedy hotel and keeps the hotel's name out of it. Trouble is, she's missing a diamond pin and tough guys show up at Tony's boat looking for it. When the pin does turn up, it's fake, so the girl's father, a wealthy builder, hires Tony to find out what happened to the real stones. Bodies begin to pile up, Tony suspects the builder's trophy wife, and he's also looking for a mysterious guy named Nimmo who used to date Ann Archer, a stunning redhead Tony meets at the builder's. The star of the film, actress Yasuko Matsui, was Kobayashi's wife. She starred in or appeared in many of Kobayashi's films of the 1960s. The popularity of this film inspired the studio– Mutsukuni Eiga– to make a quick sequel. It is mainly watchable for the wardrobe, the set design, the quirky camera angles and the new age editing. The heist is interesting as the gangsters force a passenger plane to make an unscheduled stop in Rome by the means of a fake bomb. In the airport terminal they snatch precious stones from some couriers. Joseph Cotten is the Doc Erwin Riedenschneider of the picture, in the first few minutes his frizzy hair glows in the evening sun and surrounds his head like a halo (never seen anything similar before on an adult).
