The film is based on the life of preacher Peter Marshall, who served as chaplain of the U.S. Senate late in his life, in an account written by his wife Catherine Marshall. It was nominated for an Academy Award in 1956.[4] "Free Hand for the Tough Cop" is another wildly exiting, gritty and remarkably plotted 70's Euro-Cult cinema highlight, with a structure that is delightfully convoluted, wicked dialogs & action situations that rank amongst Italy's finest! Personally, I would even state this film is as good as on par with the quality levels of Lenzi's most famous crime-thrillers, like "Almost Human" and "Violent Naples", but it's not as easily available as those two and therefore still a little under-appreciated. With the revival of European cult cinema lately, this film is destined to be released in a fancy DVD-edition any time soon, and I'm sure it'll get many new fans from that moment on. For those who can't wait for an English and/or internationally released version; the film is already available on a French label called Neo Publishing. Marchetti ordered the murder because he was to be accused by De Luca. The two have a car accident while going home to get an alibi. There is a witness, Sironi, who calls the police. But when the police arrive the car has gone and so have the two men. Inspector Santi and young judge Novelli look into the strange case. Marchetti, however, is a powerful man and Sironi and his family begin to be obsessed first by threats then by assaults. Two friends grow up together in the Sicily of the '50s. Two different destiny, two different way of life. Could their friendship survive to the mafia shadow? Tony Lo Bianco (G. Tinti) an American cop transferred to Italy, becomes Maurice's right-hand man. Maurice is a famous "camorra " boss. He is planning an assault to a post office near Naples. During the robbery, another boss called "the panther" shots over Maurice's band wounding Lo Bianco. Fortunately Lo Bianco does not die and he starts to investigating about Maurice's past. He finds out that the boss is protected by the Italian Secret Service because he has some important documents regarding drug traffics where Italian minister are involved. Lo Bianco finds the documents and he is ready to give it to a magistrate but he is killed before leaving Italy. This is the worst Italian crime film that I have seen. Acting is poor and actors too. The careful viewer will notice that sometimes the actors look at the camera during their dialogues. Even if the film has been shot in Italian the dubbing is simply shoddy, with false Neapolitan accent. The action is slow and boring. In Josh Sternfeld's meticulously crafted murder mystery, a Catskills police detective (Nick Stahl) charged with investigating a juvenile homicide in an affluent suburb finds he must return to his struggling hometown of Caswell to find the killers.
