Each movie is a shambles, though if I had to choose between them I'd probably opt for this one, which is certainly the more original. Ray and his students play themselves in docudrama situations that culminate in Ray's (fictional) suicide, and often he combines several images into crowded frescoes. The film reeks of countercultural alienation and anguish, and when it premiered at Cannes in 1973, Ray spoke of trying to make "what in our minds is a Guernica" out of such materials as "a broken-down Bolex" and "a Mitchell that costs $25 out of navy surplus." He tinkered with the film for years, and the 1976 date commonly assigned to it refers to a second unfinished version, which, lamentably, is unavailable. It's upsetting in many ways, but as a document of its time there's nothing remotely like it. The Federation's Boss must call their best agent out of a bedroom romp with a gentleman because the USA, Russia, Britain and France, the four nuclear powers, are under the menace of an atomic weapon carried by their very own super secret joint satellite. An unnamed power, represented by the sexy and intelligent Madame Chang, by various means (sexy hit-girls and some violence) has been retrieving the keys to the computer that controls that weapon from the only men in the world who had got those precious keys... The beautiful and daring Diana Burns, after being driven over New York by helicopter, is forced to play a double game with the British agent to save his life, to fight a Dark hit-girl in Central Park, and try to avoid paying the 4 billion dollar ransom demanded by the Eastern gang. Pepper will have to use her other attributes, to uncover treachery among her own people and to play two deadly games of chess to win the day. The world will be safe again, and then pepper can rest .. In 1830's England, young medical student Victor Frankenstein (Leonard Whiting), following the drowning death of his beloved brother, bitterly renounces God and vows to find the secret to creating life himself. He crosses paths with the eccentric Dr. Henry Clerval (David McCallum) who shares his quest and takes the younger Victor under his wing. When experiments in reanimating insects and a severed human arm succeed, the two prepare to bring to life a man whom they have assembled from body parts of victims of a mining accident. On the eve of their attempt, Henry discovers that the process will reverse itself and dies from heart failure before he can sufficiently warn Victor. Committed to carrying on his late friend's work, Victor forges ahead and brings to life a creature of incredible beauty and innocence (Michael Sarrazin). The two develop a close, affectionate relationship and Victor looks forward to presenting his creation to society as "the new Adam." Inevitably, the flaw in Clerval's procedure results in the grotesque distortion of the Creature's appearance, causing Victor to callously reject him. The Creature attempts suicide but to his dismay finds he can't be killed. He leaps from the White Cliffs of Dover, and Victor assumes he's seen the last of his bungled handiwork. Alvin Purple, the world's most unlikely sex symbol stumbles from woman to woman and job to job in this zany, sexy Australian comedy. Young Terry Lambert returns home from serving a prison term for a gang-rape he was forced to participate in. He seeks revenge on his lawyer and the girl who framed him.
