Personally, I would even state this film is as good as on par with the quality levels of Lenzi's most famous crime-thrillers, like "Almost Human" and "Violent Naples", but it's not as easily available as those two and therefore still a little under-appreciated. With the revival of European cult cinema lately, this film is destined to be released in a fancy DVD-edition any time soon, and I'm sure it'll get many new fans from that moment on. For those who can't wait for an English and/or internationally released version; the film is already available on a French label called Neo Publishing. The picture quality and sound are awesome, and the disc contains some fascinating extras, but you have to able to understand either the French or the Italian language. 影片是08年《死亡(⤴)飞车》的(👠)前传。 Hildegard Knef gives us one of the best interpretations for the Empress of Russia. But Elisabeth Bergner with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. in "Catherine the Great (1935)" and Louise Dresser with Rudolph Valentino (!) as The Black Eagle in "The Eagle (1925)" are good as well. Sergio Fantoni is not a super-star as Fairbanks or Valentino but he is a good cast as Orloff. The ball-room scenes, the costumes and the uniforms are good (Walter Patriarca was the costume-designer). Umberto Lenzi, the director, and the script-writer Malatesta deliver us a fine historical movie with passion and adventure. Well, this unknown but genius horror film had a deep and real beyond story, including the mystery of the screenplay, very real feeling of dead world. I can compare this film with Lucio Fulci's last "The door to the silence" of the same year. A detective is working on a strange suicide story and meets strange people who tells about "forzi"- some beyond creatures taking away people beyond. The hero was prohibited to say the words "The life is wonderful and nice". Every time he said that accident happen. Bad ending .
