L’histoire se déroule à(🥤) la pé(🎳)riphérie d’une grande ville qui peut-être Istanbul, Francfort, Paris ou Alger, dans une cité peuplée de gens déracinés. Un frè(⤵)re et une sœ(🛀)ur d’une vingtaine d’années, orphelins, partagent le studio de cette cité où ils ont grandi et dont ils ne sortent quasiment pas. Leur tante vit dans l’immeuble voisin avec sa fille qui prépare son mariage.
Haunted by the memories of his time in the Gulf war, Jacob tries to adjust to civilian life aided mainly by his friendship with his commanding officer, Hilt who has made civvie life work for him. However, Jacob's stable reality is crushed when Hilt is killed during a suspected mugging that went wrong. Now Jacob feels it's his duty to find the truth behind the incident and bring closure to Hilt's widow, Louise. His investigation has him going head to head with DCI Lane and his partners Sergeant Egan and DC Carter as his own life starts to entwine with those he suspects of being involved. This story is about a 9 year old American Jewish boy, David, and Kamal, also a 9 year old and a poor street urchin of Arab descent selling postcards to tourist in the stone enclosed Old City of Jerusalem. At a first glance, Kamal seems bright and energetic but in reality, he's suffering under the tyrannical presence of his grandfather who oversees the living of his family, his mother and two sisters.
