Nonostante che preside della scuola sia lo zio materno Paolo, il giovane Mario Cubetti viene rimandato in francese. Suo padre, il costruttore commendatore Ercole Cubetti, oltre a ritirargli le chiavi della lussuosissima macchina regalatagli in attesa della scontata promozione, ne approfitta per far venire da Milano Lisa Colombi, una giovane professoressa che pensa di conquistare. La famiglia Cubetti, signora Enrichetta compresa, si trasferisce in un albergo balneare costruito e posseduto dallo stesso Ercole ove giunge anche la Colombi e dove presto saranno raggiunti dal preside Paolo con il collegio dei professori e un buon numero di giovani. Il commendatore Cubetti cerca in ogni modo di espugnare il letto della giovane insegnante di francese e questa, avendo accettato per indurre il costruttore a realizzare un progetto dell'architetto di cui è amante, si trova a disagio.
