Carmen Suite is a one-act ballet created in 1967 by Cuban choreographer Alberto Alonso to music by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. The premiere took place on 20 April 1967 at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow. The music, taken from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet and arranged for strings and percussion, is not a 19th-century pastiche but rather "a creative meeting of the minds," as Shchedrin put it, with Bizet's melodies reclothed in a variety of fresh instrumental colors (including the frequent use of percussion), set to new rhythms and often phrased with a great deal of sly wit. Initially banned by the Soviet hierarchy as "disrespectful" to the opera for precisely these qualities, the ballet has since become Shchedrin's best-known work and has remained popular in the West for what reviewer James Sanderson calls "an iconoclastic but highly entertaining retelling of Bizet's opera."

Even amongst exploitation junkies "Ricco, the Mean Machine" doesn't get a lot of attention and that's a shame because it's a very sadistic, effective and all around excellent Italian Crime movie with lots of nudity. Ricco (Christopher Mitchum) is out to get his revenge on the crime lord that killed his father with the help of the very sexy Rosa (Melisa Longo). He takes each of Vito's (Arthur Kennedy) men down one by one, bringing him closer and closer to his prize.
...I'll take this almost intolerably nasty 1972 Italian drive-in movie, which features Mark Lester (of OLIVER! fame) as a kidnap victim who gets into scrapes that, in their uncut version, would probably get this movie in Federal chickenhawk-busting trouble today. Franco Nero and Telly Savalas are the two conscienceless galoots who are the movie's anti-heroes; Savalas re-ups his giggling hillbilly cretin from THE DIRTY DOZEN, here caricatured to beyond a fare-thee-well. Savalas is the cherry on the cake of what may be the most remarkable set piece in all seventies Italian exploitation: calming a tourist family, packing them in their mobile home, then untethering the trailer and singing a gospel hymn as the terrified Germans plunge into the drink. If I'm not misremembering, there may be a little jig involved here as well.
