Hildegard Fell is a precocious young girl, who is good at chess and good at telling stories. She has one to tell us, as a matter of fact. It's about a crusty old man named John Anderson, who just moved into the small Massachusetts town where she lives. Her father, the minister; her pretty mother; her friend, Mrs. Whiteford, a would-be medium; and Clarence, Mrs. Whiteford's nephew, all have a part in the story, too. It seems Mr. Anderson is a recluse and rather hard-hearted. He won't allow the church to hold their annual charity bazaar in his garden. Hildegard manages to win him over. And she learns a very interesting secret.

海盗(🤺)单眼(yǎ(🥘)n )英乔(qiáo )装佣人，与(🕎)同党(dǎ(🍳)ng )聚居姑婆屋，多次(⛲)(cì )与黄(🍴)飞鸿斗法，英爱(à(🍧)i )上少东(👩)赵二官(guān )，欲改过(🕥)自新，却(👴)遭(zāo )兄(❓)长钓鼻彪(📸)以同(tóng )党奀婆(😡)的性命(mì(🏴)ng )威胁(xié )。后鸿直(📤)捣姑婆(pó(🔴) )屋，英暗中帮忙(❗)对(duì )付彪。彪被杀(🦄)，英亦(yì(😞) )决定洗心革面(mià(🎉)n )。
The opening shot is of a young couple (Gail Ganley and Ralph Reed) in a sports car necking. She excuses herself and the boy drives off. The girl is approached by a man carrying a silver briefcase. He removes his sunglasses and she screams and collapses on the lawn. The man removes a rubber hose and needle and attaches it to her neck and empties her blood into vials in his case. We get a close up his eyes and they are just milky white orbs. Title and credits run over pen and ink drawings.
Miss Paisley adopts a stray cat. She names him Stanley. Stanley sneaks into the room of the violent tempered Mr. Rinditch. He tells Miss Paisley to keep the cat out of his room, but she fails. The cat sneaks into his apartment and Rinditch kills it. When Miss Paisley finds out, she grabs a knife to kill Rinditch, but she has second thoughts. She sits down and falls asleep. In the morning she wakes up wearing different clothes. The knife is also missing. She discovers that Rinditch has been stabbed to death and that a janitor has been charged with the crime. She is convinced she is the murderer but the police don't believe her. The janitor is later convicted and executed. Miss Paisley then discovers Stanley's collar. She remembers the murder. She did kill Rinditch and threw her bloodstained clothes and knife into a river. She now does the same thing with Stanley's collar so that no one can trace the crime to her.
An impoverished jeweller's assistant places an unlikely bet in an effort to raise the funds to buy the perfect gift for his secret love. If a famous jockey finishes first in all his races at Goodwood, he will win a fortune. But when the first three races go according to plan, the young man faints and a series of slapstick misunderstandings ensues. Norman works in a jewellers workshop and fantasises (in the nicest way) about meeting the window dresser across the road from his workshop. He wants to buy her a diamond pendant but calculates it will take him over 100 years to save up for it. He is talked into betting a pound on a six horse accumulator at the Goodwood races with a slightly shady bookmaker. When he has won on the first five races, the bookie owes him over 16,000 pounds and everyone begins to worry. Everyone's future depends on a single race ... what can be done?
