A Cinderella story of a young country girl who comes to Hollywood and achieves movie stardom with the help of a publicity man. Police try to solve the murder of an ex-commissioner. Steven Gaye, a successful New York playwright has passed forty and thinks he has bid farewell to the world of romance. But he falls in love with his secretary, Linda Brown, and suddenly finds himself more madly in love than ever before in his life. Linda reciprocates his feelings but he feels there is a too wide gap in their ages, and he pushes her in the direction of the leading man, Dick Reynolds, in his current Broadway play. Linda becomes engaged to the younger man and finds there is a problem...while Dick is young and romantic, he is also dumb. Three crooks conspire to steal one of his paintings. Kelly is played by the great German actor Fritz Rasp, who must have felt he was slumming in this movie. Into this umlaut-fest arrives Niels Korff, one of those implausible fictional characters who could never exist in real life. Korff is a hugely successful author of detective novels who amuses himself as a flautist, but who acquires material for his novels by working (in real life) as an amateur detective! Korff takes it upon himself to save the Vermeylens and their painting. He is aided in this endeavour by two bumbling private detectives: van Gaalen and Schimmelpennick. —IMDb Review Barry Gilbert and "Doc" Norton, broke and hungry, enter the unoccupied Reitter country estate. Soon, servants begin to arrive to prepare to welcome home the prodigal son, John Clark Reitter, Jr., of a newspaper-publisher, who has been away for several years and whom none of the servants know by sight. Barry decides to pose as Junior. The real Reitter (Jr.), before he can reach home, is arrested for murder and his wife, Peggy, appeals to Barry for aid. With the help of a newspaperman and an attorney he manages to establish Reitter's innocence. He also finds time to fall in love with Patricia Hammond and gets a job as a reporter on Reitter's newspaper.
