The small-town prudes of Lynnfield are up in arms over 'The Sinner,' a sexy best-seller. They little suspect that author 'Caroline Adams' is really Theodora Lynn, scion of the town's leading family. Michael Grant, devil-may-care book jacket illustrator, penetrates Theodora's incognito and sets out to 'free her' from Lynnfield against her will. But Michael has a secret too, and gets a taste of his own medicine. The story starts just before the Civil War, showing Fisk, Boyd, and Luke conning Southern townsfolk into buying bars of soap that, might, have a $10 gold piece inside. Found out, they're chased out of town and escape across the Mason-Dixon Line just as the war starts. Fisk hatches a plan for him and Boyd to return to the South and buy cotton then smuggle it to the North where Luke is to sell it to the Northern textile mills. By the end of the war they have made millions, only to find out that Luke had been re-investing their money into Confederate Bonds. This fact-based movie shows Jim Fisk as one of the greatest con-men and entrepreneur's in history. It concludes with his involvement in "Black Friday", the Financial Panic of 1869, with fellow financier Jay Gould (who's not represented in the movie) and their attempt to corner the U.S. gold market. There's a love triangle between Fisk, Boyd and Mansfield, which is also based on historical accounts. Sir Karell Borotyn appears to have been killed by Count Mora, a vampire believed to haunt the local village. Now his daughter Irena is the count's next target. Enter Professor Zelen, an expert on vampires who's sent in to prevent her death. At the same time, secrets are revealed surrounding the circumstances of Sir Karell's death. This frankly racist comedy short, made at the height of the Yellow Peril fears of the 1930's, follow the efforts of two inept bank guards to find a Chinese man with a wooden leg who, they believe, as kidnapped a prominent scientist. When they locate Dr. Wong, an evil Fu Manchu-type intent on gaining world power, they are able to rescue Professor Millstone and help his lovely daughter escape while destroying the Frankenstein-like monster that Wong has created Hungarian countess Marya Zaleska seeks the aid of a noted psychiatrist, hoping to free herself of a mysterious evil influence. At Walpurgis Night people gather around bonfires and in restaurants to celebrate the coming of spring. Johan Borg has booked a table for two, hoping to pour new spirit into his dying marriage. He is longing for a family life, with children of his own, but his wife Clary opposes it. In fact, she has planned to undergo an illegal abortion this very afternoon - without her husband's knowledge. Because of this she refuses to spend the evening with him. Johan then invites his secretary Lena to celebrate Walpurgis Night with him at the restaurant. He explains to her that his marriage is over. Johan and Lena have a wonderful evening together and fall in love. Meanwhile the police have spotted the illegal abortionist. Clary is weak after her abortion, but escapes just before the police arrive. A small crook finds some evidence for Clary's illegal abortion, and tries to blackmail Clary and Johan. When Johan refuses to pay him more than 5.000 crowns he attacks Johan. In the turmoil the crook loses his gun, Clary picks it up and shoots him down. It is an act of self-defense, but Johan and Clary are chocked and tries to erase all evidence of the deed. Johan flees the country and joins the Foreign Legion. Before committing suicide Clary confesses that she killed the crook and that Johan is innocent. Lena, who is unhappy because of Johan's disappearance, wants to bring him the news, but doesn't know where to find him.
