Abel, an immature and eccentric man finds himself at a turning point. He sleepwalks through his life, which revolves around his dying mother and journalist girlfriend Madeleine, who is even more immature than he is. Abel is finally made to face up to reality when he has to say goodbye to his mother and then, by chance, he meets an old girlfriend who is about to move to Paris and be married.

Gates to Paradise is a 1968 film by Polish director Andrzej Wajda. The film is set in medieval France and is based on a story by Polish writer Jerzy Andrzejewski (1960) that seeks to expose the motives behind youthful religious zeal. It was entered into the 18th Berlin International Film Festival.
A feature drama about a girl torn between two cultures, the English-speaking community of Vancouver where she grew up and the French-speaking Québec where the film opens. Her uncertainty extends to her lovers, one from Vancouver who wants to take her home and the other from Québec who would like to continue their pleasant, if inconclusive affair.
