火焰山历险记

This is a 1991 made-for-French-TV 90 minute film directed by Daniel Losset' starring Caroline Laurence as the 'Venus', & Maxime Boidron as 'Lulu' (French familiar name for 'Louis'). The film is based loosely on the life of the Irish Tenor, Josef Locke (1917-1999), played by Ned Beatty. The film's exposition begins in Liverpool's Irish community, with Micky O'Neil (Adrian Dunbar) running Hartley's Night Club. Micky is a bit of a rogue, and although he considers Nancy Doyle (Tara Fitzgerald) his girl friend, he seems conflicted in saying "I love you". Following a disastrous love scene, where Nancy briefly shows us all, Micky attempts to win Nancy by booking a series of impostors, including Franc Cinatra (Joe Cuddy) and Mr X (William Hootkins), a Josef Locke impersonator -- who travels under the 'X' since the real Josef Locke is wanted in England for tax evasion. When Micky finds that Nancy's Mum Cathleen (Shirley Ann Field) was Josef Locke's special girl in the 1950's -- he tries to hook them up. Another disastrous love scene (no nudity), and Micky loses his job -- vowing to find the real Joe and bring him back to England from his exile in Ireland to perform for Cathleen and thereby to win back Nancy. The rest of the film covers Micky's search in the beautiful emerald isle, with a triumphant final performance of the real Joe at the about-to-be-torn-down Hartley's. The tunes are classic Locke, although sung by Vernon Midgley. (There is a CD of the same name with original Josef Locke's voice with recordings of 25 of Locke standards). The closing minutes of the film have the bulldog policeman Jim Abbott (David McCallum) closing in on Joe -- "Is it or isn't it?" the motto of Mr. X. belies the ending where the final scam plays out. Raynor is an undercover narcotics cop. For his next assignment he chooses the more inexperienced but tough and good-looking Kristen. Their ultimate target is Gaines, a renowned but very elusive drug dealer. While doing their work they unexpectedly fall into a morase of drug-addiction and fall in love with each other. Despite subjecting themselves to the life of low class, one track junkies they do not get the evidence they want to convict Gaines, and instead are forced into using false evidence in court. Florence is the unsatisfied wife of a museum director. A worthless his attempts to seduce even in situations outside of the ordinary (one day before him naked in the middle of antiquities). Moreover, the man decided to adopt a boy who, whenever he gets the chance, try to spy on the new mother naked. To resolve the problem we think the maid of the woman who convinced the lady to grant her attentions to other men. Marple is invited to London to see her old friend Ruth. Miss Marple was a sort of traveling companion to Ruth and her sister, Carrie Louise. Ruth is worried about Carrie Louise. She doesn't know why, though. Ruth asks Miss Marple to come with her to her sister's estate, Stonygates. Stonygates is a huge manor house, and some of the buildings and the grounds are used by Carrie Louises' current husband, Lewis, as a reformatory for juvenile criminals. Miss Marple meets the people who live there - Carrie Louise's grand-daughter Gina and her malcontent American husband Walter; Stephen and Alex Restarick, Carrie Louise's stepsons by her first marriage; Edgar Lawson, Lewis' mentally unstable secretary; and Carrie Louise's daughter, Mildred, who is jealous of Gina. Soon, Carrie Louise's stepson by her second marriage shows up. He is Christian Guldbrandsen, and he runs the trust which contributes a fraction of the funds used to run Stonygates. He and Lewis talk in private. Later that night, Edgar begins waving a gun around and ranting that Lewis is his father. Lewis takes him to his office where the argument becomes even more heated. After a few minutes, two shots are heard, and then hysterical crying. The door opens to reveal Lewis, unhurt. Edgar missed him. However, the body of Christian Guldbrandsen is discovered, shot.
