The Monkey Kid focuses on the details of a nine year-old girl's daily life during the Cultural Revolution. In 1970 China's intellectuals had been dispersed to the countryside to learn from the peasants. Their children remained in the cities to learn life on their own. Shi-Wei, the Monkey Kid, is one of these children, and she survives her family's fracture by instinctively clinging to happiness; she is a bright light against a dark background. With her parents away she gathers with friends wherever she wants, she shows up late for school, she tumbles down mountains of gravel, she balances on balconies five stories high. Shi-Wei has dizzying choices. And she slides away from the dull embrace of the Cultural Revolution
A good start simply. The English title, and that's all I know, The Senator and is about two characters, very different, whose destinies meet in a nice heroin-conspiracy-business. First, we have the happy, naive and good-natured taxi driver who would prefer to marry his cousin and ensure that mother may see a doctor because of his leg pain. Then we have the sick law-abiding police Haghgoo that never has broken the law. The driver shows his fine driving in a car chase and become an employee of Khomeri, a really slimy politicians (it is implied in the beginning) who are also heroin dealers. Of course do not know our hero that it is heroin trafficking is all about, and will be fixed - by Haghgoo - in a crackdown. But after a while you realize Haghgoo that his new friend is innocent, let him go and get himself fired for this prank.

Incorrigible boor Jack Taylor is fired from the Garda (Irish national police) for brutality against a government minister. His experience, some contacts and cheap rates get him started as private eye in all but name, assisted by his even less law-abiding buddy, painter Sutton. Anne Henderson hires him, suggesting her missing teenage daughter was the latest in a series of suspicious 'suicides', which he traces to sleazy manager Ford's factory and illegal sex recordings. That turns out only the tip of the iceberg, even before Jack is beaten badly and old publican Sean is fatally run over.
