Mick and Joey Barrett are brothers who like to spend their time surfing. However, it doesn't pay the bills, so they offer their services to whoever needs it and occasionally get involved with all sort of adventures. In the first season, they worked primarily for Gordon, a man who used to work for the government and who's the godfather to the daughters of numerous important individuals. So occasionally, one of his god-daughters is in trouble, or someone he knew from days of government service needs something done, so he sends Mick and Joey to help them and he occasionally leaves a detail which usually involve danger, because of this they are reluctant to do the job most of the time but in the end they always do the job. In the second season, they own a surf shop in Santa Monica, and they run into people who need help or someone they know needs their help. Two students (Jian-Wa and Wago) in the Peoples Republic of China are forced to flee out of China after having taken part in a protest action for freedom (reference is made to the fights at Tiananmen Square in 1989). They come to America, and try to build up a new life. After a while, one of the brothers pursues a musical career while the other gets entangled in a criminal organisation.
Jarring Jack Jackson, the greatest football player in Ridgefield College history, is disappointed that his only son Junior is an uncoordinated, allergy-ridden bookworm. He uses his athletic reputation and standing as #1 alumni contributor to pressure the coach to take Junior on the team. In addition, he pays the tuition of Junior's financially needy classmate Bill Baker, a potential all-American, with the understanding that he will room with Junior and mentor him athletically and socially. Junior's initial efforts as quarterback prove disastrous and further complications arise when the room mates both fall in love with the same co-ed. Plot complications become critical as the climactic homecoming game approaches.
