Seven students answer an advertisement to participate in an experiment to explore how the sensation of pain can be eliminated. Arriving at a secluded institute, they are welcomed by mysterious scientist JB Divay. Initially, JB's fascination with hypnosis, clocks and cactus plants are dismissed by the group as mere eccentricities. But as the students begin to disappear one by one, they begin to question JB's true intentions. This is the story of Mitja, a young doctor, who chooses to work in the middle of nowhere, to help the people who are forgotten by God. He lives and works in the steppe, which seems empty and deserted. But every day he has patients coming in his homehospital: one man’s heart stops after heavy drinking, another comes with a dying cow. A policeman, the only authority in this vast region, comes to see Mitja very often. Life is dangerous in the steppe. There are fights between different groups of local people. Sometimes Mitja has to treat wounded people. One day his wife comes to visit him from a far away city: she comes to tell him that she decided to leave him and marry another man. He is left alone. But he feels that there is somebody or something always present nearby. In the long run this strange menace becomes a reality.
Tehran: seven Iranian transsexuals who live pieces of their own lives on the screen. Boys who like to be girls and a girl with a boy’s spirit and energy. Their spirits are not at one with their bodies, and this is a problem more forceful and burdensome in Iranian society with its traditional precepts and tradition of patriarchy. One can sense the depth of their loneliness and tedium when one sees that they are accepted not even by their own families. These young people are estranged from their own bodies and spirits, and exhausted by this estrangement from themselves and a society that accords no rights whatsoever to them.
