"Rhinoceros Eyes" is a darkly humorous coming-of-age tale about Chep (Michael Pitt) a reclusive young man, who gets comfort from the movies and his vivid imagination. When Fran, (Paige Turco) walks into the prop house where he lives looking for unusual objects, Chep immediately develops a crush. Obsessed with her job designing movie sets, Fran insists that each prop be the real thing­ even if it happens to be a pair of rhinoceros eyes or a human finger. Chep's growing love for Fran makes him willing to prowl the dark streets at night in search of items for her. As Fran's requests become more peculiar, Chep is thrown into increasingly bizarre situations. His life quickly spirals out of control. In an unnamed country in a small village the young local executioner is carrying out the execution of three people on the orders of the outside hard core cleric, Hadji. After the first two are shot, he is told to stop, because Hadji believes that executing the young women will send the young virgin to heaven. Instead Hadji orders the young executioner to marry and deflower the virgin, so she will end up in hell after her execution. He must cope with modern-day technology, and running such a large household has driven him to drink. Caro feels close to God and prepares diligently for her First Holy Communion. She makes a deal with her father. If he promises not to drink until her first communion day then in return she will learn to swim, but Mees succumbs and the day ends in disaster. Consequently, Caro starts doing extraordinary things beyond her control while Mees falls into a state of apathy. But a new flock of pigs brings with it fresh hope. When they eventually land on the moon Caro is ot interested. She prefers to look at the moon herself. Meanwhile she has learned to swim, God has become a vague acqaintance and she no longer worries about things beyond her control. She has become a carefree child and welcomes a new life. Emma, a young author, goes to see Erik, the publishing editor whom she's sent her debut novel. Their meeting leads to a love affair. The middle-aged Erik leaves his wife. What Erik doesn't know is that Emma recently began a relationship with the dramatist Stefan, whose play is also being published by Erik's company. One day Stefan overdoses and is brought to the emergency ward where Erik's wife Ann works as a doctor. These incident is the start of the story about how four people's lives are crossed during ten years, until the four of them finally end up in the same loneliness they started.
