A spy paints plans on a girl's back and is caught in Boulogne after a chase by motorcycle, horse, car and monoplane. The Wicked Darling is a 1919 drama film directed by Tod Browning. The film was considered to be lost, until a copy was found in Europe in the 1990s. The copy now resides in the Nederlands Filmmuseum Bargeman Louveau finds an abandoned boy, Victor, and with the authorities permission takes him back to his own family where he raises him. 10 years later Victor and Louveau's daughter Clara have fallen in love, and it is then that Louveau is called to Paris, where it has been discovered that Victor is really the son of Maugendré(🌔), a charcoal shipper on the Nivernaise canal. Meanwhile, Victor protects Clara when a jealous bargehand attacks her and he manages to save the family barge from crashing into the lock. Returned to his real father, Victor is sent away to be educated but misses Clara and his life on the barges. When Maugendré realizes this he lets him return and when they are married he gives Victor and Clara a barge of their own. Another amazing find from our friends at Cine-Clasico, "Vier um die Frau" is a 1921 Fritz Lang film found in the Brazilian film archives. The period intertitles are in Portuguese but the plot is not difficult to follow, particularly with the assistance of the invaluable Herr Graf Ferdinand Von Galitzien, whose blog entry on the film (link) follows : Sylvester, by the hugely underrated Lupu Pick is one of the least known films of the silent era, and unjustly so. Pick, the director of the slightly less obscure Scherben (Shattered), is almost as forgotten as this, his masterpiece... a film that without doubt, in it's time, was one of the most important of the German silent era. Based on Herman Bang's novel Mikael, Vingarne is a silent melodrama about an artist's love for his newfound male model. Radically, the film opens with director Stiller and his cinematographer coming across a sensual staue of Icarus in the gardens in Stockholm. Then the movie proper begins, with artist Claude Zoret struck by love at first sight for the young Mikael in a woodland; he adopts Mikael, who serves as inspiration for his latest sculpture.
