He is only too pleased to give her a tour of the country’s exotic beauty, all the while remaining unaware of her true intentions – she is a spy! Sent by Markus’(🍌) competition, Nora had been charged with snooping on his new and ecological hotel construction project. When he does discover her deception, he immediately breaks off all contact. Nora, however, having fallen in love with Markus, now hopes to wipe the slate clean and promises to fully support him in implementing his plans. Meanwhile Silke, another hotel guest, is disappointed to learn that her blind date in Vietnam with Guido, whom she had met online, has been postponed. The hotel resident Fabian, having gotten word of the ruined date, presents himself as Guido – which leads to an uncomfortable series of misunderstandings. The head chef Malte is struggling with difficulties of his own: his father has arrived at Hôi An in an attempt to convince his son to return to Germany and take over his fast-food chain. Malte, however, wants to marry the Vietnamese Lamai and live with her in Vietnam. Joon-il coincidentally hears Heon-il’s music in a café and suggests making a band after showing him his music. Model and drummer Hyeon-jae comes on board after that and these guys form a modern rock band. They portray hesitant love, desperation towards a dream unsteady but unwavering dream in sentimental melody. While waiting to be chosen by a management, these three decide to be the bus king at the worldwide famous Indies band “Swell Season” and this changes their destiny. Tour-de-force technique is applied to twisty romantic comedy in this elegant dissection of messy emotions. The film is divided into two 40-minute scenes, each filmed in a single, unbroken take, the first set on a Staten Island terrace, the second at a Hamptons beach house. The story follows the erratic love life of thirty-something Sasha (indie treasure Karpovsky), his lingering feelings for his ex Mia (Neshat), his rivalry with his best friend Kyle (Gary Wilmes), and a wedding that (going against the rom-com grain) leaves much unresolved. The fluid camerawork is in tune with the slippery emotional terrain and is matched by the virtuoso focus-shifting sound design.
