Le Mystè(👀)re de la Tour Eiffel is a spectacular adventure film by French director Julien Duvivier (Pépé le Moko, La Belle Equipe). It tells the story of the naive circus artist Achilles Saturnin whose business partner steals his papers, poses as him and causes Saturnin to miss out on a huge inheritance. When members of the crime syndicate Ku Klux Eiffel also set their sights on the fortune, Saturnin seems doomed. But then Saturnin decides to challenge the hoodlums; a series of daredevil exploits on top of the Eiffel Tower follows.

Desperate to save his ailing grandmother before she slips beyond the point of no return, a young boy from the country ventures forth into the big city on a mission to sell his only asset, and procure the medicine that will make her well again. One night, after awakening to the sounds of his beloved grandmother Didinha praying for death, Joaozinho realizes that the ageing woman can endure her suffering no longer. Now determined to do everything in his power to restore her health, young Joaozinho decides to sell his goat "Mocinha" so that he will be able to afford his grandmother's medicine. In order to do so, however, this brave young soul will have to venture out from the safety of his surroundings and into the hustle and bustle of the capitol city. Though his mission is a noble one, will this young boy be able to procure the medicine and bring it back to his grandmother in time?
This highly symbolic and enigmatic political drama by Hungarian director Miklos Jancso was produced by a consortium from Italy, France and West Germany. This film is considered to be an homage to Antonioni as it uses his favorite leading actress (Monica Vitti) and his cameraman Carlo di Palma. This film was made at a time when Jancso was not allowed to make films in his native Hungary. While covering an Italian political protest, a journalist played by Vitti, finds herself surrounded by a group of young men who jostle her, remove her recording equipment and set fire to her car. She goes to the police but when they bring one of the assailants before her to identify, she lies and says that he is not one of the attackers. This leads to her having a romantic relationship with this mysterious young man-- an Italian neo-fascist who has been given the job of assassinating a leftist.
