Sanjay Verma is an eligible young man, who has been having hallucinations of a past life as Shantanu. He travels to a small community and meets with Sonia Verma, and recognizes her as the girl named Lachi in his hallucinations. Convinced, that they were lovers from a past life, he attempts in vain to impress this upon Sonia, who is engaged, and is to be married to Vikram Malocha.
After 15 years of friendship and peacefull life together Volfgang finally decides to marry Jana but suddenly old friend of Jana arrives - alive doll named Bella who isn't good girl and who doesn't want to give Jana away to Volfgang without fight.
The film is set in British India in the year 1915. The story is about a young doctor, Govardhan Menon (Mohanlal), who is wrongly accused of bombing a train carrying 55 people including British officials. He is put in a cellular jail at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Kaalapani shows the sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners in the cellular jail, including leading participants of the freedom movement. The extremely inhuman conditions faced by the prisoners in the jail is accurately depicted.
An aspiring filmmaker and his lady-love find themselves in a fix after being met with violent opposition from the girl`s family members.
