The Wicked Darling is a 1919 drama film directed by Tod Browning. The film was considered to be lost, until a copy was found in Europe in the 1990s. Two agents from different sides are working in a circus, one - the Schwarze Natter (Black Adder)- as a dancer, the other as a horseback artist. The Schwarze Natter is informed that the other is receiving information by one of the visitors this night, who is also in love with her. She is trying to get him and the information herself, making it look like the other side has her finger in this incident. But an officer of the local police had an eye on them, because some things happening before made him suspicious and starts playing his little game. The beautiful Slavic countess Vera Preobrajenska (played by Thaïs Galitzy) is a seductress of married men, who drags them to the brink of ruin. Retrieval of a parcel left for Les Vampires informs them that The Grand Vampire is hiding at a hotel under an assumed name, and of a $200.000 robbery of an American. The hotel is located and, ultimately is discovered to be the base of operations of Les Vampires. What appears to be green-tinted bullfighting footage seems out of place. Sepia-tinted scene of Irma Vep rummaging about in hotel room is creepy looking, she is then captured and held for ransom by Moreno-- but the serial is wearing a bit thin now, with treasure maps and hypnotism being thrown into the plot, and the chapters are not only getting more convoluted, but also longer.
