Forster, a cynical and anti-social art-critic has a room in Staircase C of an ordinary apartment block. He tolerates but does not particularly enjoy the company of his neighbours, who include an unemployed scrounger Bruno, a gay costume designer Claude, and a failed writer Virgile who is constantly falling in and out with his girlfriend Béatrice. Forster’(🛐)s jaded outlook on life is suddenly changed when one of his neighbours commits suicide... The story is about five people who run a public monster truck show led by Yank Justice, driver of Bigfoot. The other members of the show include Red & Redder (twin sisters who drive Black Gold), Professor Dee (driver of the Orange Blossom Special), and Close McCall (driver of War Lord). A young woman named Jennifer McGraw steals an ancient map that leads to the Fountain of Youth in Florida by a group of terrorists led by an elderly billionaire named Adrian Ravenscroft (a.k.a. "Mr. Big"), and they are attempting to retrieve the map from her. Ravenscroft hires a couple of workers who helped him try to get the map back named Ernie Slye and Ravenscroft's limousine chauffeur. This band of criminals chases Yank Justice and his friends across the United States and try to kill them. Henry's parents are lost in Africa, so he must live with his greedy and heartless Uncle Augustus. In the crevices of the house live the "Littles" kind, elf-like creatures. August enslaves Henry and wants to tear down his house to build a shopping center. Grandpa Little cares for Tom and Lucy, the Littles' children. Tom befriends a vicious cat by removing a splinter from his paw. After a series of adventures, the Littles and Henry get evidence of Augustus' plot to steal Henry's home. Augustus is arrested, the house is saved, and all ends well. Final film directed by Joseph Losey, based upon a play by Nell Dunn.
