A witty tongue-in-cheek look at the ups and downs of Iran’s contemporary history through one woman’s obsession, the film recounts the cradle-to-grave tale of the 316 pairs of shoes its fictional narrator owned in her lifetime. Director Haghani brings a huge sense of humor and rich imagination to this colorful animation-studded diary that stretches from his protagonist’s birth in the time of the Shah through the turmoil of the 1979 revolution and beyond, as a life’s journey and a nation’s milestones are whimsically marked by evolving needs in footwear. The film opens in the year 1988 with the death of Mumbai's King of Dharavi (Asia biggest slum) Varadarajan Mudaliar. Following his death, the rival group goes on a rampage and we are introduced to Anna (Satyaraj) who takes the job of protecting Varadarajan's Dharavi in his hands and letting his son Vishwa (Vijay) to be brought up in Australia. Over there he leads a dance troop and falls in love with Meera (Amala Paul). Later, Vishwa finds that Meera is a Mumbai cop and she pretend to be in love with him just to know about the locality of his father.
