During summer vacation on Long Island, three young people--a girl and two guys--become so close that they form a sort-of threesome. When an uncool girl tries to infiltrate the trio's newly found relationship, they construct an elaborate plot that has violent results.
Fishing boat captain Harry Morgan charters his boat. Due to strained finances, he is none too careful as to whom he does business with. Real trouble erupts when Harry hires out his boat to transport four men who turn out to be criminals on the lam from a racetrack heist.
The film retains most of Shakespeare's original play and does not change the order of scenes, as Olivier's Hamlet or Richard III do. The only major omission is the Fool's scene, although other minor lines are cut here and there. (The stage version contained more of the play than did the film.) Derek Jacobi (Cassio) and Michael Gambon both made their film debuts in Othello while Edward Hardwicke, would go on to work with the National for seven years.
