Marilyn is found dead one morning on her own swing in the attic of the apartment building. The investigating officer quickly concludes she was murdered. He has only one day to solve the case and by doing so has a chance to get a glimpse of the lives of the other residents.

A grief stricken captain embarks on his final mission in command of an ageing cargo ship. The ship's small crew, frustrated and discontent with their lives in deep space try to complete a successful mission, but the ship has ideas of it's own.
