The PT boat initially had little respect from senior Navy officers but their maneuverability and speed however quickly change their minds. As the Japanese advance across the Philippines, the PT boats become essential in evacuating the senior personnel including General Mac Arthur. One Touch of Venus (1948) is a film directed by William A. Seiter, starring Robert Walker and Ava Gardner, released by Universal Studios, and based on the Broadway musical of the same name written by Kurt Weill. However, the film omits most of Weill's music and thus got poor reviews. The proprietor of an ice-skating revue promotes a peanut-vendor at the show to a management position based on suggestions he made to improve the act of the show's star, who also happens to be the owner's wife. But then he hears that Ferdinand Brückner is still alive and also lives in Berlin. Brückner was his Captain during WW2, he gave the order to kill more than 100 innocent people, many children and women among them, on Christmas 1942 in Poland. A homeless New Yorker moves into a mansion and along the way he gathers friends to live in the house with him. Before he knows it, he is living with the actual home owners After working successfully as an actor in France during the 1930s, Eric von Stroheim, in common with such French actors and directors as Jean Gabin, Michèle Morgan, Jean Renoir and Julien Duvivier, moved to Hollywood after the outbreak of WWII. He left behind such memorable movies as Les Disparus de St Agil, La Grande illusion, Tê(🍀)mpete (the last to be shown) and L’Alibi which he made for Pierre Chenal.
