A French washerwoman becomes a duchess and a friend of Napoleon. The beautiful Slavic countess Vera Preobrajenska (played by Thaï(💇)s Galitzy) is a seductress of married men, who drags them to the brink of ruin. When Thaïs seduces the husband of her best friend, she dies from falling off her horse. Salomé (1923), a silent film directed by Charles Bryant and starring Alla Nazimova, is a film adaptation of the Oscar Wilde play of the same name.
