Totsugeki! Hakata gurentai is his first feature and last 8mm film. Haven't watched it yet myself, but from the looks of it, this is very much reminescent of eighties and nineties v-cinema, sort of like early Miike (only made in 1978). There is considerably more dialogue than in his earlier films, but it doesn't seem too complicated plotwise. Originally produced in 1981-1982, and intended as a prime-time TV special for ABC. The project was shelved after negative reaction by H-B and Taft executives to the film's graphic imagery, particularly relating to the 1960s and the Vietnam War. The film was retooled in the mid-80s, with a new sequence featuring classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon clips set to "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go." To date, the film has only had one public screening in the United States, at the 2nd Los Angeles International Animation Celebration in July 1987 It´s a movie about a child memories, when the young protagonist spend some time in a summer holiday between some relatives at Murcia (sudwest of Spain), while his fathers were in divorce way. It's a biographical picture, bittersweet, with a good plasticity and somes interesting characters portrait. Win an award at Montreal Festival of Cinema.
