However, the film omits most of Weill's music and thus got poor reviews. Judy Peabody saves an old man from drowning. He turns out to be Jerry Bates, "J.B." to his lawyer Curtis, "Pop" to Judy, who mistakenly believes the wealthy old-timer to be poor. The late, great impresario Florenz Ziegfeld Jr. looks down from Heaven and ordains a new revue in his grand old style. High school music student Sherry Williams is excited that her actress sister Jo has taken time off from her New York stage career to visit Sherry's school to see her perform in a musical play. Jo is about to step off the train when she hears that a famed Broadway show producer, Arthur Hale, is also stepping off the same train, leading Jo to depart from the other side of the train and make her own way to Sherry's play. Kenneth Holden (Albert Dekker), a banker steals funds from an estate and decides to marry the heiress,Claire Worthington ('Catherine Craig (I)' Qv)) to safeguard his position. He arranges for her fiancé to be killed but does not state the fiancé's name. Claire, meanwhile, has a change of heart and marries Holden.
