Ya-hwa commits suicide by slitting her own throat. With her dying breath she asks her pet cat to come and drink her blood. The ghosts of Ya-hwa and Pil-woo appear regularly thereafter accompanied by a monsterous cat It is hard to think of another ninkyô(🌑) yakuza film that leaves the main protagonist - a chivalrous female at that - in so much pain and sorrow, such an emotional abyss of desolation at the climax. Yamashita and writer have fashioned a bleak, haunting, exciting and beautiful film. Parentless, the oldest of five takes a job in a mill to support his younger siblings. He works hard but is stingy with the money he earns as he hopes to save it for his brothers and sister.
